This event was proclaimed in 2002 by the ASIFA (The International Animated Film Association) as the main global event to celebrate the art of animation. The International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) designated October 28 to be International Animation Day. This event took place in 2002 to celebrate anniversary of the first public performance of Théâtre Optique.

Théâtre Optique was a moving picture performance presented by Charles-Émile Reynaud on October 28, 1892. Reynaud’s Théâtre Optique was outshone by the Cinematograph of the Lumière brothers in 1895. Reynaud was driven to bankruptcy, however his invention projected first moving images to the audience and this event entered the history of optical entertainments.

In recent years, the event has been observed in more than 50 different countries with more than 1000 events, on every continent, all over the world. Celebration of International Animation Day is organized in more than 50 countries around the world. Every year ASIFA creates an original poster, that is adapted for each countries, involving works of famous animators. This guarantees that this event will attract public attention worldwide.

Cultural institutions organize workshops, exhibitions and other events helping promote the art of animation. Everyone can learn new techniques of animation, using painting, drawing, clay, sand, puppets and computer.

We didn’t want to miss the opportunity to congratulate everyone working in the world of Animation with this small tribute.
